"EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE COUNTRY PUNKSTERS" - COLCHESTER GAZETTE
The Family Dickens is an Alternative Country Punk band from Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Comprised of three brothers, Buddy Lee, Jebidiah and Big Charlie, the band provide the perfect soundtrack for any shotgun wedding during a bar-b-q at a rodeo, an event not that unusual in Lawrenceburg.
The Dickens brothers grew up in a musical Kentuckian household, making music together since they could carry a firearm. After Ma allegedly killed Pa and was imprisoned, the brothers left Kentucky for the green hills in the east of England, where they currently reside.
The Family Dickens wasted no time hitting the circuit in Essex, supporting big names like Dave Mcpherson from Inme, Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer, Eddie and the Hotrods, and The Skints. The success of their debut album 'The Shape of Country to Come' prompted the inaugural Dickenstock Festival, an intimate, indoor music festival the brothers host at Queen Street Brewhouse in Colchester.
Playing their own tunes and their twisted country punk versions of popular hits, The Family Dickens are firm favourites at county fetes and farmers markets as well as any sawdust covered bar that needs a human jukebox ready to quench the town folk’s thirst for anything that sounds like Johnny Cash fronting The Clash feat Hank Williams with a guest guitar solo from Brian Setzer.
